A hip fracture is a break in the upper quarter of the thigh bone, near the hip joint. Symptoms include the inability to move after a fall and severe hip or groin pain.
Around half of proximal femoral fractures are Neck of femur fractures. They are more common after the age of 50. Incidence is higher among the females due to osteoporosis.
Fracture of acetabulum (Hip Joint Socket) is usually a result of high velocity trauma like vehicular accident. Proper surgical fixation is required to prevent future arthritis.
These proximal femoral fractures are also result of fall in older age patients. They can be treated by internal fixation using nail (PFN) or plate-screw (DHS).
